Discover Ultimate Frisbee in Trondheim

Looking for a sport that pushes your speed, endurance, and agility? Maybe you enjoy playing disc golf, but want more challenge and action? Ultimate frisbee might be the perfect match - it's an exciting team sport that combines athleticism, strategy, and fair play.

About Ultimate

Ultimate Frisbee, or officially Ultimate flying disk, is a team sport, usually 7x7 outdoors or 5x5 indoors. The goal is simple: move the disc up the field and catch it in the opponent's end zone. If the disc drops or goes out, the other team takes over and attacks. You can't run with the disc, so it's all about fast and precise passes, quick sprints, and teamwork.

Teams can be open, women's, or mixed. In Norway, mixed is the most popular format, just like in the World Games. The game allows this because it's non-contact and built on fair play — safe, intense, and competitive all at once.

Trondheim Frisbeeklubb

In Trondheim, ultimate has a long tradition through Trondheim Frisbeeklubb (TFK). The club has been active since 1999, starting as an NTNUI student team before becoming a separate sport club. Today, both TFK and the NTNUI student team train together.

Over the years, TFK has competed in Norwegian and international tournaments, winning several national titles, most recently the Norwegian Championship in 2023. To stay competitive, we train extensively, indoors from September to May and outdoors during the summer.

We always welcome new players, whether you want to play ultimate for fun or join the competitive team. Trainings are open to all skill levels, and joining is a great way to stay active, meet new people, and experience the excitement of ultimate. Questions & Answers

Is Ultimate like disc golf?

They're different games, but the throws will feel familiar. In disc golf you're aiming for baskets, in ultimate you're aiming for teammates sprinting into the end zone. Ultimate is a team sport, fast-paced and dynamic, but the forehands, backhands, and other throws you know all come in handy.

Is this the sport for dogs?

While dogs love catching frisbees, Ultimate is a human sport! It's a serious athletic competition played between two teams of people. Though we're sure your dog would enjoy watching from the sidelines.

I never heard about ultimate before, is it popular?

Ultimate has been played since 1968 and today has more than 100,000 registered players worldwide. It has been part of the World Games since 2001, where national teams compete every four years. In Norway, you will find teams in every major city, including the Oslo area, Bergen, Tromsø, and of course Trondheim.

Do I need experience to join?

Not at all! Both TFK and NTNUI welcome beginners. We regularly hold training sessions where experienced players teach newcomers the basics. Ultimate has a strong tradition of helping new players learn the game.

Do I need to pay for practice? Do I need a TFK or NTNUI membership?

Our "Open practices" are free and open to everyone. Club members train without extra cost, and newcomers may try a few practices to test the sport before before purchasing a license.

Are there tryouts to join the club?

Practices are open to all players. Tournament rosters depend on effort, skill growth, and attendance. Club members may audition for the Norwegian national team.

Are you part of a sports organization?

Trondheim Frisbeeklubb belongs to NAIF, the Norwegian Federation of American Sports, and to NIF, the Norwegian Sports Federation.
